T. A. Petty, all of Gaffney. William Kincaid Philadelphia. William Kincaid, 71, considered one of the finest flute players in the world, died Monday at his home in south Philadelphia.

Kincaid was first flutist for the Philadelphia Orchestra until his retirement in 1960, ending a 39-year career with that group. He taught at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia for many years, and his pupils went on to occupy the first flute chairs in some 15 orchestras across the country. Kincaid was horn in Minnesota and grew up in Hawaii, wheie he used to dive as a boy for pennies in Honolulu Harbor. He said later that he underwater swimming taught him the breath control he needed as master of the flute. He was married to Miss Helen Gooding of Gaffney, an organist for the First Baptist Church.

She was a cousin, by marriage, of Mrs. T. L. Brown. Mrs.

Kincaid died in 1965. Mr. Kincaid is survived by a brother, Douglas Kincaid of Boone, N. C. Graveside services will be held here at 2 p.

m. Friday at Oakland ceihetery. conducted by Rev. Charles Sides. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
